Problems & Challenge
- In 2004, with 70 employees, RTLogic, a leading provider of products for ground-based space applications primarily for satellite and launch range operations was too large to be considered a small company, and too small to be
called a large company. It needed an affordable enterprise-wide solution to provide sufficient management of its real and intellectual property, and not get in the way of its agile systems development
- The system must support ISO 9000 certification requirements and be able to provide decentralized, network-dispersed, team-oriented, code development and project management. It must also facilitate web based team communication, issue tracking, user access permissions, collaborative code and document management and leverage existing version control systems.
Solution
RT Logic initially came across Intland's codeBeamer collaborative development platform, because it won the coveted Jolt Award for product excellence and
productivity. Upon downloading an evaluation version, codeBeamer stole the show beginning with its ease of installation. Three factors ultimately determined the selection of codeBeamer: Ease of per project customization, dedicated man-hours required for ongoing support, and price.
Benefits
- Easy installation, integration with both Subversion and CVS (among others), highly customizable Trackers, and role-based permissions.
- Straightforward customization of the application supports RTLogic’s enterprise needs. By defining its own trackers, codeBeamer allowed it to schedule test equipment for calibration, follow-ups for customer support, and sales opportunities.
- It is a cost effective solution given its easy installation, no consulting services required for ongoing maintenance, and the availability of a flexible floating license business model.
- It has become a one-stop shop for each of RT Logic’s 108 active projects allowing a new engineer to quickly come up to speed on all aspects of a particular project, from proposals and requirements, to the bill of materials and delivery.
